FRACKING SUNBURN
Last week I went to the beach and it was awesome except for the fact that I got a relatively (by my standards) horrific sunburn due to a combination of radiant Australian sunshine and my lack of sunscreen application on the day, which had resulted from an unhealthy paranoia that had been stoked up by learning of the sunscreen controversy.
FUCK I HATE IT WHEN SUNBURNS PEEL OFF
It's annoying and disgusting and
/spasm
It's worse than the tingly pain that made me inwardly flinch when my dad grabbed my shoulders as a joke and when my mum tried rousing me by shaking me by the shoulder. It's worse than having to take lukewarm/cool showers for a few days because hot water makes sunburned skin cry. I'd actually rather have a couple more days of tingly pain than this repulsive peeling.
It isn't, however, worse than the skin cancer which could result from getting sunburnt.

I understood/can remember... everything except some dotpoints in the immune response section. The antibody/lymphocyte blah... yeah...

Oh man I'm going to end up doing everything in the next two weeks. The Belonging essay, the ExtEng related text thing, figuring out a 4U plot and writing a few thousand words...
You know, it's a question I ask myself disturbingly often:

Had to go out today for a bit, and I feel like being more lenient to myself (read: I am lazy and procrastinatey and all this stuff about antibodies/etc. is too chem-like for my tastes and thus I am being really slow), so I'm altering my self-promise from "finish 9.4 first-column dotpoint notes by 4pm today" to simply "finish 9.4 first-column dotpoint notes today"

Yelling works. Also, thoughts on languages...
It appears that I only accomplish wonderful feats of nerd* when I actually say that I will do something. Preferably yelling it in capitals somewhere public, such as in this blog. As opposed to saying something like "let's see if I can do this..." <- That didn't work today! Instead, it has to be something like this:

Also, I will get up earlier. Might watch the 7AM German news on SBS1... been watching the 1:10PM news on SBS2 since Tuesday. It was/is horrifying in its fluency. Though funny, maybe I'm imagining it but today I seemed to understand more / find it easier to understand HAHAHAH YAY.
On a somewhat related note, I've decided that for foreign languages, this is the [descending] order of difficulty of.. doing stuff. Yeah, that was coherent. But yes:
1. Speaking: You have to nail your pronounciation and grammar while maintaining a normal talking speed (which becomes horrifically speedy when you're not yet fluent), which involves THINKING FAST. On top of that, if you're going to be reeeeally good at speaking, you have to sound natural/native with your diction/etc.
2. Writing: Your grammar/etc. has to be awesome. You can't hide any grammar mistakes in writing.
3. Listening: You don't need to have perfect grammar/etc to understand what people are saying... the difficulty here is understanding the language as it's spoken... right, that was coherent. And I cbb to elaborate...
4. Reading: You don't need to have perfect grammar/etc to understand something that's written - also, when you're reading, you can work at more of your own pace than with listening, and seeing the word written out makes it easier to guess the meaning than if it were spoken... sometimes, at least. E.g. "utile" is Italian for "useful" ... I'm pretty sure it's not impossible to guess the meaning from seeing that written out (link to ''utilise'', anyone?) but if you heard it spoken, it wouldn't be as easy to guess. I think.
...That's how I find it, at least, haha.

Fiery prion-fuelled nerd enthusiasm

Just finished making syllabus notes for 10 first-column dotpoints of HSC Bio 9.4 'The search for better health'
THAT'S HALF THE FIRST COLUMN DONE
HAHAHAHAHAH
And I understood everything I wrote, unlike when I was note-taking for 9.2... a few months ago... wow, that feels like ages ago. The whole pseudo-Year12 thing kind of screws with my time perception, I think.

Okay yeah who needs horror slasher films when you have this topic? PRIONS, ANYONE? What little I know about prions sounds like the premise for a horror film, seriously. Not a slasher, but you know.
Assuming I have everything right, prions are the smallest pathogens size-wise. They are proteins. Apparently we all have normal prion proteins living in our brains or something, where they're innocuous and non-evil. BUT THEN comes a mutation [in the genes that code for these prions] that causes the normal-prion to flip into a disease-causing form. And these pathogenic prions, despite having no nucleic acid, can reproduce. It's thought that they do this by getting in contact with a normal-prion and turning it into a pathogenic-prion (HORROR MOVIE MUCH AHAHA)... and also, pathogenic prions can't be killed by heat or chemical treatment.
ALSO, DID I MENTION, prion diseases are called 'spongiform', apparently. Because the brains of prion-disease sufferers have holes in them. Just like sponges have holes in them.
...Such nightmare fuel, these little proteinaceous infectious particles.

On another note, I'm proud of myself because everything up there was written from memory, except for the part in square brackets. And I checked it against my books and it seeeeeeeems to be correct. Probably. Haha. Don't trust me 100% though just in case I somehow botched something. Though why you'd trust a highschool blogger 100% on info on infectious diseases... //dodgydisclaimer
