IN ANY CASE, hope you have a great time/few days/life :D

art spam because I like to plug my stuff and I can't think of anything good to say

This post will be sketchbloggy and full of pictures because my verbosity/vernacularspew is on long service leave or something. Possible lag, apologies xD

Click for higher res (:

ancient scribble. vaguely-conceived OCs... with obligatory lamprey mention! you can see the red pencil in the two profiles that I used... I meant to do rough sketch in red, then neater lines in 'lead', then get rid of the red on Photoshop and thus make it look cool/neat BUT when I was adjusting levels and darkening the sketch in Photoshop I decided I liked the red so I kept it there /hugelylongunnecessaryramble

I wonder if Elena and Bree will recognise this from the thing I was drawing in Bio class... at least, I think I drew some of this in Bio. Can't reeeally remember. But yeah. A random mage OC with totally impractical/overlyfancy clothes which I excused by making her a mage who moves/fights with magic and thus totally doesn't have as great a need for practical clothes as do mere mortals or something hahah.

Really random/quick sketch in SAI of a couple of OCs ... not the same universe as the guy+girl from the first image, though both have cheekbone tatts. Hmm they need nostrils... oh well. And they're a... couple, I think.

ANOTHER OC COUPLE HAHAH. Yeah they all look vaguely similar I know. I need to work on drawing more varied faces. And the guy's hands are weird. And I think I was meant to draw the girl's left hand too, but somehow forgot. My excuse? Drawn mostly during rehearsal for presentation day haha. Edited a bit in Photoshop.

Another sketch dressed up in Photoshop. Same mage girl as above. Also a Pres day rehearsal sketch.

This took forever aiiieeeee. Now click! Hahaha. And be astounded/disappointed.

I don't know how interesting you found that, but me, I kind of go "hey pictures!" for pictures of any kind so I figure even if you have no interest at all in what I draw... well... it's a change from my usual all-text posts? Good change? You like? If people like, I'll upload drawings more often and if not I won't bother until I get another word drought... or something xD

Avocadoes

Avocadoes are green and cannot read. Such is the wisdom of one Aleeché (read that with English pronounciation, please)... taken completely out of context.

On this arvo's train trip I asked Elena what I should blog about. And she replied with 'avacadoes', and so... yes.

WELL, WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT AVOCADOES?

Well, one, I keep typo-ing 'avacadoes'. Don't ask why. Maybe I secretly love the name Ava. NOOOOO I highly doubt that. Anyway.

I don't like avocadoes. Never have... for as long as I can remember. I don't like the flavour, or the texture, and it's actually been so long since I've had avocado properly that I can't really think of any more substantial/detailed reasons for my avocado aversion.

Do you like avocadoes?

I seem to be surrounded (at school) by people who do like avocadoes. You all suck. Though good for you, because apparently they're amazingly good for you, health-wise, or something. Why is almost every single food I dislike good for health? E.g. tomatoes, carrots, tofu, those weird long pale toadstool things whose English name I don't know, etc.

Yes I'm a picky eater. But that would be going off the topic, as I'm meant to be talking about avocadoes.

I just looked at the word 'avocadoes' and it reminded me of Avogadro['s number]. And as I'm sure none of you want to hear about chem, I'll end this blog post here! Ka-chingggggg.

a thousand meteoric minutes to theoretically hybridised solar midnight--

Last night I went to a Linkin Park concert and it was fucking AMAZINGGGGG <3333

1. I went with Fio and Em and we were in the silver reserved seating area which was in the section furthest away from the stage but I didn't mind because it meant we weren't pressed by people on all sides like the guys in the mosh pit (though the front row guys there would've had the most awesome view) so it was quite comfortable, and because we could sit down.

2. But the seat thing was whatever because for the actual Linkin Park concert (i.e. excluding the breaks and stage changing and the support act) I think I spent almost half the time on my feet, screaming/cheering and singing/yelling along with everyone around me :'D

3. Every time an 'old' song (i.e. from their first three albums, before A Thousand Suns) came on, everyone pretty much jumped up and cheered, especially the ones with really distinctive openings, e.g. Numb, In The End. And people sang along to those. Not so much singing along to the ATS songs though.

4. That said, during 'The Messenger', at the end, the "ohh-oh-oh" kind of part... Chester stopped singing partway through and instead it was just the whole audience singing the very last part together and it was like nawwww BELONGING AHAHAHAHHA. But yeah seriously, that was really nice. Did I mention that 'The Messenger' is a really sweet song? It was acoustic too and it was so nice. And while we all sang along to the old songs, for this one, which was both new AND a quiet song, everyone shut up. Except for the last part, heheh. LISTEN TO THE SONG (: [ link ]

5. By the time the concert was over I actually could not talk properly for 10 mins or so, my voice had changed notably in pitch and hoarseness, what with all the scream-cheering I did hahahah - I wondered if I annoyed anoyone there... seeing as I'm not physically able to cheer/scream in a roar like guys, I resorted to shrieking instead. HAHAHAH. Yeah I'm a fangirl etc. etc.

6. I definitely didn't expect to enjoy myself as much as I did, partly because I didn't really know how good Linkin Park were live, and also because I didn't really like any of the ATS songs prior to the concert... and because my LP obsession had just waned significantly since its 07-08 zenith. Needless to say, however, I did enjoy myself very very very much (:

So yes it was WORTH EVERY SINGLE CENT <3

hail the nerdiness

Oh what the hell, I'm going into withdrawal from lack of assessments or something. I need to do something productive and actually kind of complete it, e.g. draw

Try to catch up--

So this is how it goes with Linkin Park songs: usually I listen to them once and it's like "mehhhh" / "it's okay / "it's not bad..." It usually takes a while before they grow on me. And then I launches into obsessive love for them.

So it has happened with almost all their previous songs I listend to and so I hope will be the case for the A Thousand Suns songs (Y)

...I don't even like any of the ATS songs HAHAHA. Though I won't be surprised if after 5 listens or so that situation does an about turn... hopefully.

Insert chesirecatgrin here

Viva Voce is OVER! And I don't want to think about it. Or talk about it. (:

Anyway, what you really need to know is that today I got home, showered, bludged, had dinner, made mashed potato, and now I am sitting here with WLM and Firefox and Paint Tool SAI open, listening to Tokio Hotel and not a single browser tab in my browser/taskbar is tuned to something educational.

This is my new ad campaign to promote my deviantART page:

Utterly misleading, as I have exactly zero cosplay pictures on my account and maybe one Death Note drawing (which I may have deleted), BUT OH WELL! It wasn't intended to be an actual ad campaign so it's all good. Yes, in case you couldn't tell, that's me doing a half-assed L cosplay. Back when my hair was short enough to be vaaaaguely passable as L, urgh. Now I can't do it. Hair too long!

Belonging related texts and a non sequitur thrown in free of charge

Agh crap why did I leave this so frigging late, I have like no time to speedread/get books omfg FAIL, RAIN, FAILLLLLLL

Oh yeah and: http://www.insidebreak.org.au/belonging/
^ List of suggested related texts in case some loser who leaves things last minute like me has been drawn to my blog through some deep common-loser connection and would find that useful. Or just if someone wants related texts on belonging... not necessarily a loser. Though view that with discretion, because it has Twilight as a suggested text... as well as many other good (as in actually good, I'm not being sarcastic here) texts, etc. [no, if you misread that and though I meant Twilight was a good text, then let me assure you you're mistaken]

I have a renewed love for the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" <3

tl;dr-inducing version:
When getting home and finding you can actually afford to spend a couple of hours doing non-schoolwork, i.e. when you have free time and no huuuugely pressing assessments...

DO NOT go on Tumblr/FB/Formspring/any-kind-of-blog-slash-social-networking-thing first thing when you turn on the comp. IT MELTS YOUR BRAIN, SERIOUSLY, AAGHHH

Instead, play chess. Or DRAW <3
Or write. Or even browse deviantART, at least that's inspiring. But don't browse through deviantART literature because you'll probably be sucked into the cesspool of beautiful-and-pretty-and-nice-but-INCREDIBLY-ANGSTY-AND-OVERDONE poetry/prose/prosetry that you seem to always be drawn to somehow... and that will also melt your brain.

Bio assignment finished and handed in and I am relatively confident/happy with my work... [frantically hugs wood].
My Internet is definitely not lagging like the primordial formation of the universe.
I have decided to dedicate this evening to bludge and have scanned in a bunch of pencil drawings that I've... LOLOL drawn during school haha... also, seen some nice stuff on dA... also...

I am traumatised.

I can't find/access my Bebo account.

...Andddd I just realised that it's probably because I deleted it. Yep. Now it's come back to me. I remember deleting the account aaaaages ago, and I think I told Tracey or something. Or did I just fabricate that, because Traceling is the person I associate most with Bebo?

BUT YEAHHHH.

Well, past!Rain... good on you. You've robbed me of chances to fall into a probable pit of Internet-packaged nostalgia. Though you've also robbed any possible trolls of their chances to spam your page (not that that's likely, seeing as we're such antisocial people in terms of social networking sites). And you've also saved me the pain of stumbling across anything horribly embarassing that I may have written what... two-three years ago? Meaning, you've obliterated a potential cesspool of embrassment fuel. Congrats!

I'm still traumatised though, but for different reasons.
/sob

annnnd don't worry it's not anything that any of you would term serious, haha. the other reason(s) for trauma, i mean. in fact, it's not even something i would normally term serious. BUT IT'S STILL TRAUMATISING. okay now i'm sounding reeeeally passive-aggressive or attention-seeking or angsty or whatever. but i'm not. and i'll shut up now because this entire paragraph kind of reeks of insincerity LOL

Animorphs

The Animorphs series by K.A. Applegate. I used to love those books. In fact, I kinda still do - however, my enthusiasm for them kinda faded some time between, what, Year 7 and now? Also, the fact that the series is a massive fifty-something books long (not including specials, I think)... and the whole Year-12-I-don't-have-time thing... yeah, somehow I just stopped reading them.

BUT RECENTLY I HAVE BECOME ENAMOURED WITH THEM ONCE AGAIN... SORT OF... due to reading stuff about the series on TVtropes. Haha.

BUT YES.

I have decided that after the HSC, sometime, I will most probably get my hands on the complete series and READ IT. I say most probably becuase there's always the chance I might lose interest. But if my interest in the series is still there... that's something I definitely want to do. I know a heap of spoilers already, including like... THE ENDING, but whatever. I still want to read. So yes.

Maybe one day I'll make a post-HSC to do list LOL.

Analyse information from secondary sources on the historical development of the theories of evolution and use available evidence to assess social and political influences on these developments

    Ancient beginnings
Theories of evolution had their beginnings in Greek, Roman and Chinese antiquity as well as in medieval Islamic science. The idea that species could change over time was considered; however, these views were not based on observation and provided no testable theory or mechanism to explain how these changes could occur.

    Religious influence
Up until the 18th century, Judeo-Christian ideas about the fixity of species dominated the West. The predominance of religious institutions assured that ideas such as essentialism (that all species had essential, unchangeable characteristics) and creationism were most widely accepted throughout society.

    The Enlightenment and change
Views about the evolution of organisms began to change with the Enlightenment in the 18th century. At this time, naturalists started to focus on the variability of species. Doubt had been cast on the ideas of species being fixed, due to the advent of palaeontology and the concept of extinctionism. Furthermore, as the Enlightenment was a period characterised by the rise of reason as the prime source of legitimacy and authority, religious institutions lost power and the hold of their beliefs, including those of creationism, began to weaken.

    Lamarck
The first known scientific theory of evolution was developed by Jean-Baptiste Lamarck during the 1800s, when evolution began to be taken seriously. Between 1802 and 1822, Lamarck published his theory that the use and disuse of body parts strengthened and weakened them respectively, and that evolution was due to the inheritance of acquired characteristics. Lamarck had been conducting research at the height of the French Revolution, which was caused in part by the Enlightenment and which firmly advocated its ideals regarding reason. This social and political influence almost certainly impacted upon Lamarck’s work, causing him to look for a logical theory about change in species. Lamarck’s theory has since been disproved, as acquired characteristics are not inherited.

    Darwin and Wallace
In 1858 Charles Darwin and Alfred Wallace jointly published the evolutionary theory that both of them had reached, albeit independently. The theory was outlined in detail in Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, published in 1859. Intense debate, controversy and interest followed. Although there had been growing support for ideas favouring change and variability in species, in the first half of the 1800s the English scientific establishment was still closely linked to the Church of England. Dominant beliefs regarded life as a designed hierarchy and that humans were unique and unrelated to other animals. Transmutation was not accepted by the mainstream scientific community.

    Acceptance
About twenty years after the publication of On the Origin of Species, there was a general consensus in the scientific community that evolution had occurred, though there was doubt that natural selection was the mechanism responsible. In the 1930s and 40s, due to modern evolutionary synthesis, Darwin’s theory of evolutionary adaptation through natural selection became the accepted modern evolutionary theory.

    Modern debate
Today, though evolution is a generally accepted idea, there is remains ongoing debate surrounding the issue. It has not been completely accepted: for instance, some schools in the USA teach creationism or intelligent design instead of or alongside evolution. There exist various lobby groups in many parts of the world that attempt to influence the predominance that the Darwin-Wallace theory of evolution currently has.

    blast from the paaaaaaaaast /edit

    LULZZZZ
Rewriting this post. The part where I pasted some stuff I wrote to myself two years ago - IT'S GONE.

    AND YOU KNOW WHY?
Because it feels weird posting it up here. Even though none of it is seriously private stuff (I mean, if it were, I probably wouldn't be releasing it into the Interwebz, not even my non-large-audience-possessing corner of it). It just feels weird.

...HAHAH YEAH I LIKE PRIVACY. Even for things that aren't needing of much privacy.

Though I'm sure some of you've already read it. In which case, awesome. You now know about that time I was a flag person for a Commemoration Sunday ceremony and the fucking flagpole came apart in my hands somehow and then during the ceremony 'Girlfriend' randomly started playing and continued on for a bit before stopping. And if you didn't know that, you do now.

Just as you will very shortly know about that time I was like OMG FIREARM DRILL IS SO FUN after doing firearm drill for what was... the first time, I think? Yeah. Those fake rifles used were painful, man. And I was a weak little weed. Actually, I think I still am. But despite the pain/weight, it was still fun for some reason. More fun than static drill or marching...

    YEAHHHH.

I... really shouldn't take breaks from studying by going on Blogger / the Internet in general. Turns from a break into one long procrastination mess.

    Oh and comments please (:
    I love comments! <3333~~~~~

    VICTORYYYYYY + ewwww + vegetarianism

Today I have achieved two great things:

    1. BEAT EPISODE 7 OF N FFFFFFFFFYESZ it took ages TT"
    2. FINALLY BEAT COMPUTER ON LEVEL 2 OF CHESS TITANS! ...This time I actually took more than five or ten seconds to think before making a move hahahah. I GOT TWO QUEENS AND WIPED ALL THE OTHER PIECES FAHAHAHHAA. Okay I'll shut up now. About chess.

Mother dear is getting paranoid about my sudden liking of games at the start of Year Twelve. It is indeed vaguely worrying. Lulz.

    OH GUESS WHAT
I watched part of this horrific video about animal cruelty today, i.e. how they treat animals in farms. It was actually quite disgusting. It is actually making me seriously want to be come vegetarian. Shout-out to my blog readers: remind me that I said I wanted to be vego (:

Because of my lack of willpower in regards to this eating thing.

NO BUT SERIOUSLY those chickens are stacked in cages so that all the excrement falls through onto the animals below, and the ammonia and shit burns their feathers/skin, and other shitty conditions cause them to get osteoporosis, which makes their bones snap verrryyy easily. And they also get de-beaked with a fucking red-hot metal thing. Not to mention that, in essence, various people's desire to cut back on costs means that the chickens aren't electrocuted properly in the slaughterhouses thus they remain conscious when having their throats slit (oh and by this stage heaps of them have broken bones from being transported or whatever)... and then they get dipped in boiling water in order to make plucking feathers easier.

Wow, grisly details are so easy to remember.

AND THE CHICKS. THE BABY CHICKENS. It is so very disturbing to see footage of a room full of chicks (you know, those cute little yellow fluffballs?) all over the floor, with some guy using a shovel to pick them up and toss them into a box or whatever.

The male chicks get shredded alive.

    .
    .
    .
Yeah, so this is behind my decision to lessen my meat intake.

(Also, the vegetarianism = less impact on climate change reason... but mostly it's the ethics/animal cruelty/sheer abject horror.)

Oh, and as for the argument that may arise about how people are hypocrites if they are vegetarian yet still use animal products (e.g. leather) - would you rather people not bother going vegetarian at all?

Answering somewhat detailed questions about strategies in WWI

...makes me feel like I'm a student/recruit/trainee at some weird military 'use-cool-seeming-weapons-and-bash-people-around-a-lot' kind of academy, like the kind you'd find in a CHERUB/Alex-Rider-like book. As opposed to, you know, high school.

This is what happens when you have an unhealthy interest in violent stuff and you have read a fair share of CHERUB and Alex Rider. And have a young-adult-novel-centric mind/imagination.

Tracey, can I please read your blog?

Though feel free to refuse if you really want to. But I would like to be able to read it. (:

    -IN OTHER NEWS

    1. I feel extremely studious at the moment. HAVEN'T BLUDGED TODAY... MUCH... SINCE I GOT HOME... only for half an hour or so HAHAHHA. What I have been doing is reading some sheets on strategies in WWI... omfg. And answering questions about strategy. And the reason I finally turned on the computer a few minutes ago was to check out the Brits' strategy at the Third Ypres, aka. Passchendaele. PROUD OF ME? YOU SHOULD BE. LOOOOOL.

    2. I like German. Modern History and German (both Continuers and Extension) are my favourite subjects right now. Mod because we're learning about WWI and I actually find this sort of thing interesting and really fun to learn about and German because... it's... non-stressful. And I have confidence for this. Like, more confidence than for anything else HAHAHHAHAHA. Though subjunctive II mood is annoying. And... ehh. Need to stay non-complacent.

    3. Passchendaele... apparently notable because of the hideous amounts of MUD that was everywhere. Did you know that soldiers DROWNED IN MUD on the Western Front? And that shellshocked soldiers would sometimes be tied to a post in no man's land? And that trench foot involves your feet swelling and rotting and apparently your socks grew into your feet. Eurrrrggghhhhhh.

    zombies and apocalpyses

Elena's recent apocalypse blog post reminded me of this...
7 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Outbreak Would Fail (Quickly)
Of course you can go on about different variations of zombies and stuff, but this article's pretty cool anyway. And on a related note... I never picture a zombie apocalypse and this article has only consolidated that view in my mind. I always think more... climate-related shit. I think in terms of apocalypses... I think... most likely climate-related crap, then... nuclear/war (i.e. violent human machine-involving things).

Robots-taking-over (like in The Matrix or whatever) doesn't really occur to me. Neither does zombies. Just... hordes of stuff never really occurs to me.

Speaking of hordes of stuff, GREY GOO.

    massive Gleekery

This post contains Glee spoilers regarding episode 4 of season 2 (:
    Highlight to read.

I LOVED THAT EPISODE. OMG SAM/QUINN. SAM/QUINN. SAMQUINN SAMQUINN SAMQUINN SAMQUINN OMG <3333333333 SO MUCH LOVE AAAGHAHAHAH THEY'RE SO CUUUUTE AND SWEET I HOPE THEY STAY TOGETHER AAAHHH SO CUUUUUUTE SQUEEEE.

    ...SO CUUUUUTE.

Random thoughts about Quinn's character: hmm don't really like how she's still randomly a bitch to Rachel - well, she's not, actually, not anymore, but the random "what I need is to find ways to torture Rachel" or whatever... that was like "ehh?" and kind of dodgy I think. But lol IDK, old habits die hard? I'll vaguely forgive her for that since Quinn's a much nicer character now than the mega-bitch she was in the first few eps of season 1.

I just read a couple random comments on YouTube regarding the current Glee pairings. And here's what I have to say...

    Sam/Quinn = OMG <333333
    Finn/Rachel = LOVE
Tina/Mike = haha they seem like typical cute/sweet average couple. Tina and Artie were cute together, but I don't prefer that pairing... and actually I totally see why Tina dumped Artie LOL (it was... ignoring / staying outta contact because of some huge Halo marathon or something? Hahaha, as far as I can recall...).

I'm not going into the rest as they're not canon.

    OHMYGOD SAM/QUINNNNNN <3

Anyway, some people are/were hoping that Sam and Kurt would get together.

I say no, because... it doesn't seem right! Mainly because Sam doesn't seem gay and he says he isn't. I don't like pairings of characters that go against their canon sexual orientation... I mean if Kurt hooked up with an actual out gay guy that'd be cool, but not with a probably-straight guy.

ALSO, the fact that I love Sam/Quinn so much.

    Lol Sam/Quinn = Sinn

    HAHAHAHAH I LIKE.

Though doesn't suit them because they seem so sweeeeet and non-malevolent, but that's partly why I like the idea of having such an oppositey name. SINNN.

Now, regarding Quinn... and Puck. Quinn/Puck.

I used to be a fan of Quinn/Puck. I thought it was sweet. They're sweet together. But in that episode where it was revealed that Puck was sexting Santana while vaguely 'together' with Quinn (what was it, Hairography?)... I was fully like PUCK YOU ASSHOLE. And while I still thought Quinn/Puck was cute, I was never really down with Puck's sexual debauchery promiscuity whole "sex shark" thing. So yeah.

One reason that I think Sam/Quinn is cool is that... well, Sam so far seems like the kinda guy that Quinn deserves. I.E. a non-player nice sweet benevolent guy who'll treat her right.

    OMG THEY'RE SO CUTE /explodes

And as for Finn/Quinn, no way. Just nooo. Finn's with Rachel and I am totally digging Finchel ('twas my fave pairing until Sam/Quinn which is like my frigging OTP now... for TV shows, haha, I have one or two more for other media). And Quinn's whole pregnancy thing... yeah... kind of blew apart their relationship. And also, while the Inns were together, Quinn was a MAJOR BITCH. Possibly another reason why I don't like Finn/Quinn.

...Oh yeah and just for the record, I didn't love this episode just because of Sam/Quinn. I thought it was pretty good overall. Hehe. (No, seriously.)
    But that said... SINNNNNN <3

I just realised that I forgot another canon couple - Emma and Carl.

Hmm I liked Will and Emma (omg I was such a Wemma fan while Terri was doing her bitch thing) but when Will made out with Shelby Corcoran it was like "WILL YOU ASS"... but I still liked Wemma. But I don't mind that she's with Carl. And she and Carl seem happy, so eh. If Emma however does get back with Will... ehh don't really mind. ALTHOUGH, I really didn't like how Will made such a tryhard ass of himself in the second episode of season 2 (Brittany/Britney?). Made me quite a bit less sympathetic of Will.

Okay I think I've gotten most of the Sam/Quinn squee out of my system. As in, I still love that pairing SO FRIGGING HARD but I... think I will be able to pass the rest of this eventing without proclaiming my love every 150 words or so.

    MAYBE, LOLLL.

...Yeah disagree if you want. But if you're going to vocalise it here, do it with some nice degree of civility or not at all (:

    MORGEN BEGINNT DIE ZWÖLFTEN KLASSE

    SEID IHR BEREIT?

    -

Hahahh YAY I finished the letter challenge. Ugh. I don't think I want to do something like that soon lol. Or maybe... yeah whatever.

YEAHHHH YEAR TWELVE LOL HAHHA. PSYCHED?

As you can see, I'm high on happy now. Yay.

All the best guys, let's OWN THIS YEAR !

    30letters- THIRTY

Day 30 — Your reflection in the mirror
    Hello there,

I guess there are two ways I could do this - well, more, but two main ones that spring to mind. One way is to write to you as a reflection, that is, nothing more but an image in a glass; another way is to write as if you are me. Hmm. This letter will probably be a mixture of both.

First things first - did you know that I sometimes have random imaginings of you turning into a skeleton before my eyes, or of you suddenly not following my every move, or of you having blood leaking from your eyes like tears? (Yeah, thanks, Supernatural. And imagination.) Yeah, you needed to know that. PLEASE don't do any of that, because I'll probably... actually, I don't know what I'd do. AND I DON'T WANT TO FIND OUT. THANKS!

    Now, moving on...

I've some important messages to give to you. Absorb them and throw them back at my tangible self, please.

Tomorrow is your first day of YEAR TWELVE! Well, probably still Year Eleven officially, but Year Twelve syllabus so basically Year Twelve in all but name, or something like that. Anyway.

    1. Do not get complacent. Do not get complacent. Do not get complacent.
    2. If you screw up Modern again, I will kill you.
    3. Likewise for all other subjects, actually. You know my standards; surpass them!

Okay enough of the lists of academic blah. It's getting annoying. Back to rambly paragraphs now.

This year... please try to spend as little time as possible procrastinating really brainlessly. Also, please... don't do things extremely last minute, as in night-before/morning-before. It's... no. Just please don't do that. JUST IN CASE, OKAY. (You know what kind of a paranoiac I am. Thus I know what kind of paranoiac YOU are. Thus I know that 'just in case's work! Yeah that didn't make sense, whatever.)

Okay I'd better wrap this letter up before I get accused of large amounts of egotism (if my letter to 'myself' ends up longer than all the rest HAHAHA).

    Hauptsache: VERTRAU DEINEM BAUCHGEFÜHL.

Good luck and take care of yourself (and keep your eyes open and your cardiac controls monitored) - AND DON'T STOP WRITING, OR DRAWING -
    Rain

    30letters- TWENTY-SIX

Day 26 — The last person you made a pinky promise to
ATTN: Alissimo aka Alice aka Xerxes

Greetings! How are you? Come on, you didn't expect me to begin this letter in any kind of conventionally normal way, did you... well actually I was going to just write "Dear Alice" but seeing as I know many people named Alice, I thought some clarification was in order. Anyway.

I think you're cool. You're quite a nice person and - at least on the surface? - you're really, remarkably even-tempered. I don't think I've ever seen you snap at someone or explode at them, and you're nice to... almost everyone? It's... fairly amazing, I'd say.

You're also a really fun person to be around! If it weren't against my personal principles to describe maths class as fun, I'd say that you made three years' worth of maths classes quite fun. Enjoyable. Remember all those really weird things we'd ask people? Spelling of hypotenuse, frustum word-association... yeah, don't ask what that has to do with maths, except that those two examples originated in maths class, haha. And I feel obliged to include some sort of nostalgia/memory.

Anyway, one reason I think you're fun to be around is that I can talk to you about what seems like a large variety of inane/not-so-inane things. I can talk to you about etymology and language links without it turning into this awkward morass of "errr yeah and so what, why do I care?" (Or at least, I hope it doesn't do that...) And speaking of talking-senza-awkwardness, I love how on MSN you actually type more than 3-5 words at a time. You're one of the few people I actually have conversation-like conversations with online, and I think that's awesome... even if our exchanges end up being ten lines high and juggling three topics at once or whatever, hahaha.

Actually, sometimes I wonder if I come off as annoyingly clingy/pester-y to you, e.g. when I talk to you so much - which is to say, sometimes I wonder if I'm annoying you. If I am, you don't seem to show it, but then again, I'm both randomly unobservant AND sporadically paranoid... so yeah. Sorry if I do. Ergh.

Okay now I figure it's time to mention the actual pinky promise connection in this exorbitant letter before I feel compelled to end it in order to prevent it from becoming even longer. The last pinky promise I made was with you, and it was a really one-sided promise, i.e. that you'd wait for me and Fio to come out of VA class before you and Elaine went off to 7/11 for dollar day thing. (And you kept the promise, hurrah!)

That ties off nicely into another ego-feeding thing for you, which is that I quite like and appreciate how you're not often averse to waiting for people and/or meeting up with them at random times/places if they ask/beg/pester... okay, that sounds weird but you know what I mean? Example, when I left my USB at the library and we were almost at the bus lines and you went with me to retrieve it... and when you stayed behind with me to get my German marks haha. Even though most of the time I'm a huge pest and wheedle you into staying behind/etc.

Last of all, you're a great friend in that you listen to my various rants/neuroses, and you put up with my annoying-ness - so thanks a lot for that! And, of course, thank you for letting me scab food of you, for lending me money when I need it, for giving me random songs I want and for just being generally, fantastically awesome.

    Love,
Sunny (...aka Leonidas aka SLEAZY DUSTBALL - seeee, I even signed off with that moniker, as a sign of how much I love you! Feel the honourrrrr.)

    30letters- TWENTY-FOUR

Day 24 — The person who gave you your favourite memory
    To my friends,

You guys are awesome. I think most of my favourite memories (I can't actually pick out one, hahaha) involve you guys, so thus, you rock. Thank you for making me laugh, for being there when I needed it, and for making meaningless inane things meaningful. Love you!

    30letters- TWENTY-ONE

Day 21 — Someone you judged by their first impression
    Hi Elena,

I'm really glad that I got to know you a little this year because it's dislodged the unfair, presumptuous impression/opinion I had of you beforehand. You're pretty nice and cool, and I'm sorry for judging you when I didn't even know you.

Blindly hoping you won't hold this too much against me,
    Sunny

    30letters- FIVE

    Day 5 — Your dreams
    Hello, dreams,

After scanning the first line on the Wikipedia article of "Dream" I realise just how weird you and your brethren are... successions of images, sounds and emotions experienced while asleep? Weirrrrd. But that doesn't make you completely weird, seeing as that description pertains only to your literal selves, and in this letter I am addressing 'you' to include both your literal and figurate selves - both those of you who greet me while asleep, and those that I call upon while I am awake.

Okay, that's somewhat rambly. But so are you.

To my literal dreams - you're cool. Sometimes. And sometimes you're really weird, and sometimes you're frightening. It hasn't happened for several years now, but you used to scare me a lot when I was in your grip... though now, of course, in hindsight you seemed kind of cool, even your nightmarish selves. (I wonder if you're going to get me back for making you sound somewhat like a novelty...) At the moment, though, you seem to be leaving me alone. Haven't seen you guys in a while... or maybe you're just not bothering to embed yourselves in my memory deeply enough. In which case... suit yourselves, I'm fine with that.

To my waking-world figurative dreams - I don't have much to say to you, except that you are awesome in that you are one of my prime motivations to actually do stuff. Awesome awesome awesome. I really wouldn't want to live in a world without you.

    I remain,
    Your sometimes-conscious dreamer

    Day 5 — Your dreams

    my kinda guy ;D

So I got auto-tagged on deviantART lol. Also, Ri asked me on fs about ideal guy so er... this can fill it in!
OH AND AND I TAG EVERYONE READING THIS.

    1. Do you need him/her to be good looking?
As long as I find him attractive it's fine haha.

    2. Smart?

HELL YES. Street-smart over book-smart if I could only pick one but obviously both would be good heheh.

    3. Preferred age?

Same age as me or older. Preferably not older by ... three years or so? Yes I have a very narrow range hahaha.

    4. Preferred height?

Taller than me by a couple inches or more. But not more than a head taller?

    5. How about sense of humor?
YES PLEASE. But not in a stupid/douchebag way. Or in an excessively vicious/sardonic way. Witty would be good, and able to laugh at themselves... hahaha.

    6. How about piercings?
If so... the only piercings I think I wouldn't mind would be eyebrow/ear. Anything else, no thanks. And no excessive piercings either, and by excessive I think I mean "more than two" LOL.

    7. Accepts you for who you are?
    Obviously yes.

    8. Pink hair?
Er... not unless he looks really good with it hahaha.

    9. Mushy or no?

Hmm. If the mushy is done well... er... why does the word mushy sound so bad. Anyway. Hmm. My answer... yes, if it befits the situation. No constantly-excessively-mushy, thanks.

    10. Thin or fat?
Out of only those two? ...Thin.

    11. Black, Brown or White (skin color)?
Err... as long as there aren't any huge clashes on a cultural (or individual, for that matter) level... I don't mind?

    12. Long hair or short hair?

The length that looks better on him hahahah.

    13. Plastic or metal?
    What the.

    14. Smells good?

Yes hahah. But... no cologne/etc. thanks.

    15. Smoker?

    NO WAY.

    16. Drinker?
NO WAY. (by drinker I mean person who consumes alcohol regularly in notably large amounts)

    17. Boy-next-door type?

What does this mean, the nice/sweet type? Sure.

    18. Muscular?

If so, preferably lean at the same time hahahah.

    19. Plays piano?
    Why not?

    20. Sings very good?

That would be nice... however, I CANNOT SING so... don't mind.

    21. Vain?
About appearances? As long as it's not to a douchebaggy level. And as long as he doesn't use more styling products than I do hahah. ...Actually, preferably not vain. But not utterly, completely careless about appearance either. As in, basic hygiene and at-least-somewhat-decent clothes = good. ANNND he can't pick on my about my own appearance/clothes/etc. (unless I look truly, abjectly, objectively horrendous) ...I'm rambling, aren't I. And possibly no longer making sense...

    22. With glasses?
    I don't mind.

    23. With braces?
As in teeth braces... haha I don't mind.

    24. Shy type?
As long as we can get along well, it's fine...?

    25. Rebel or good boy/girl?
Good boy thanks... assuming rebel means the type who does stupid/reckless/stupidly!reckless things fairly often...

    26. Singer or dancer?
    Either? Hmm I don't know.

    27. Dimples?
    Why not?

    28. Bookworm?
    Oh yes please.

    29. Playful?
    Mmmm why not haha.

    30. Flirt?
Sure... AS LONG AS IT'S WITH NO-ONE BUT ME HAHAHAHHA.

    31. Poem writer?
As long as it's good poetry hahaha. Emphasis on good. Did I mention it has to be good poetry? Yeah.

    32. Serious?
When the time calls for it, yes. But not serious ALL THE TIME because that's no fun.

    33. Painter?
Ooh that'd be cool. Don't mind though.

    34. Religious?

    No thanks.

    35. Someone who likes to tease people?

As long as it's not other girls lol.

    36. Computer games geek? Or internet freak?
As long as it's not to a... debilitatingly antisocial/annoying degree hahaha.

    37. Speaks 20 languages?

Let me pick myself up from the floor in shock... yeah that'd be cool. And awesome. Awesome!

    38. Loyal or faithful?
...Huh? BOTH, THANKS....? Someone clarify this.

    39. Good kisser?
    Duhhhhh hahahhaha.

    40. Loves children?
Hmm... don't mind. Actually, calrification: I'd like him to share my views about children. Now let me just go figure out what exactly my own views about children are...

    Mother Nature = insane

I have newfound respect for nature. Especially for invertebrates. For molluscs. It is a respect fuelled largely by fear/revulsion. A lot of revulsion. Did I mention revulsion? So much so that the revulsion kind of overwhelms the awe at the kind of disturbing awesomeness.

Check this out. Seriously. You don't want to miss the first two images.
    http://www.bogleech.com/bio-clampirism.html

    Also, this.
    http://www.cracked.com/article_18746_the-9-most-mind-blowing-disguises-in-animal-kingdom.html

And while we're on the topic of disturbing invertebrates... lampreys. For those of you who have had to endure me spontaneously uttering "Lamprey!" during our last school days of Year 11, now you know can see what I was talking about, if you didn't know already: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamprey

As you can see, it's not the sort of thing that easily slips your mind. Or at least, my mind. And for some reason, the name is oddly fun to utter spontaneously and slip into conversation.

In case you were wondering, I found all this out from reading articles on Cracked.com and linkjumping. And man, I am so put off oceans now. And just marine environments in general. Aiieeesh.

    Primary schoolz0rz

Because I am a sheep, Lia and Ri and I's talk of primary school combined with Lia's post about primary school made me want to blog about primary school.

    ...Not really. But eh.

    1. Some teachers were hilarious. Which was good.

    2. One particular teacher was a douchebag. I've a couple of humiliating memories thanks to that guy, one of which was also my first practical lesson on "There Are Times When Telling The Truth To Teachers Is A Terrible Idea". Though he was funny, at times, and not really mean...? And I got my first vaguely prestigious academic award from him LOL. If you can call primary school awards prestigious. It was one of the presentation day ones, okay! Prestigious enough for a kid whose age wasn't yet counted in double digits. BUT STILL. D-baggggg.

    3. I was an stupidly violent/agro child... not good haha. Very not good.

    4. There was a guy who I was vaaaaaguely friendly with but who then turned against me after I accidentally snapped his ruler when using it to flick an eraser through the air. If said guy somehow reads this and remembers me... HI!

    5. I was top of the class and possibly/probably grade. Lol. Then I came to NSG.

    6. Library had quite good books, I think. That was cool.

    7. OMG CANTEEN CHEAP FOOD!

    8. OMG SCHOLASTIC/APPLE BOOK CLUB THING!!!! I LOVED THAT! OMFGGGGG. Going through all the catalogues was so fun. And casting my memory back, those books were SO FRIGGING CHEAP. Aaaaaiiiieee///flail. Too bad I didn't get to buy many books haha. Parents were kind of strict as to what I could get, so all I really bought were cheap Scholastic classics which I never read and random cheap stationery sets which were cool but which I also never used hahahhaa. Kind of annoying because in hindsight those books were frigging CHEAP but it's all good because now my parents randomly buy me RRP books if I really want them. YEYYY. ...And of course sometimes I just buy them myself. Because I am such a self-sufficient teen. (Not.)

    9. Book Club stuff was so good! Yes, this deserves another point. Because it was just SO AWESOME. The colourful catalogues! The... anticipation/etc. when your stuff finally arrived! Even if it was a random classic you'd never read... Eeeee. I think this is one of the things I miss most about primary. Frigging hell why can't we have Book Club? Though actually I don't really mind because NSG library has a lot of awesome books too, and you can email the librarian and request books to be ordered/bought. Mmmmmm //drool

    10. We had a creative writing assignment in Year...5? 6? And it was meant to be one A4 page or something, and I went overboard and wrote seven pages. Hahahhaha.

    11. Ms R, my teacher for Year 5/6, had a bookshelf in the room full of novels and stuff we could borrow. Among them were a large number of ANIMORPHS BOOKS. HOLY EFF I FUCKING LOVED THOSE BOOKS.

    12. Mrss G (Year 4? Can't remember properly aaagh) would read Goosebumps books to our class. It was awesome. R. L. Stine's cliffhanger chapter endings... and it'd be humourously anticlimactic or something. "Her fingers were dripping with blood, etc. etc." and the next chapter would continue and be like "Ahh damn I was chopping vegetables and the knife slipped."

    13. I have a sneaking suspicion that my primary school was larger in area than NSG... or the same size? Which actually isn't saying much hahha.

I think I forgot how fun primary school sometimes was hahaha. I still prefer high school [hands down] but there were still good times... //corny

    10daymeme: TEN

    Day ten: one confession
    1. In first grade I got put into detention for biting someone. Yearp. (Is that confessiony enough for you guys? IS IT?)

    Sunday, September 26, 2010

    10daymeme: NINE

Day nine: two smileys that describe your life right now.
    1. :D

    2. :I

    Friday, September 24, 2010

    10daymeme: EIGHT

    Day eight: three turn ons.
    1. Defined bones (yes that sounds weird, no I'm not going to explain). Especially hands. And clavicles. And profiles. (Metacarpals and phalanges for the win!) Moving on...

    2. Defined-but-lean musculature, if that makes sense. Know what I mean? No? Yeah, whatever.

    3. A nice voice.

    Thursday, September 23, 2010

    10daymeme: SEVEN

    Day seven: four turn offs.
    1. Lack of at least relatively decent personal hygiene and/or table manners. Eww.

    2. Excessive profanity/vulgarity/rudeness. I don't mind too much if you've got your mind living in a gutter and swear a lot, seeing as I do that too... but if it gets excessive... no, go away. If you have no sense at all of when to keep a civil tongue in your head, if you are unnecessarily rude/disgusting to a degree that surpasses my tolerance and/or my idea of what is appropriate for the situation... GO AWAY.

    3. Being truly, faithfully religious. Sorry, you're talking to a religiously-richocheting atheist/agnostic here.

    4. Genuine malevolence/cruelty/mean-ness.

    Tuesday, September 21, 2010

    10daymeme: FIVE

Day five: six things you wish you’d never done.
I don't actually have six things I wish I'd never done. Sure, many mistakes and some near-FUBAR incidents but I don't truly wish I'd never done any of the things I've done. I'm not into changing the past (or looking into the future, for that matter... which is vaguely irrelevant, but this feels like a good slot to mention it in hahaha) and I don't have any serious regrets... at least, NOT NOW. HAHA.

TL;DR answer: none, because I appreciate the knowledge/experience one gains from fucking things up, etc.

Notes to self: regarding exam post-mortems and other fascinating things

    1. OH SNAPPPPP.

    2. don't procrastinate bludge!drawing lol gdi

    3. urrrr go through modhist essay w/sm1th?

    4. When you have the faint inkling that a particular topic will make for a bitchy essay topic... AVOID IT AND GO FOR THE OTHER TOPIC. Even if the other topic seems less interesting in terms of narrative. Because essays aren't all about narrative! And who cares if you don't find it interesting? IT'S THE MARK YOU'RE AFTER DANGIT. Pick the topic that you can most easily/best write an ace-material essay on. Augen zu und durch!

    5. DAS KLEID. DAS. DAS. DAS. Also...genitives...hmm. Oh well it gains you show-offy points lulz. But you'll be learning them soon! I think. YAY!

    6. DON'T USE THE DICTIONARY SO FRIGGING MUCH FFFFFFFF. Leave like 5-10 mins to PROOFREAD THE WRITING.

    7. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT. GUT INSTINCT!

    8. Visual Communication + International Studies at UTS? 2010 ATAR = 97.35   ////meaning GET THE ACT TOGETHER

    9. Don't procrastinate sleeping for no good reason. Wtf.

    10. Check the delusion, kid.

    10daymeme: FOUR

Day four: seven things that cross your mind a lot.
    1. music/lyrics of random songs (mostly the ones I currently really like)

    2. German

    3. drawing/art

    4. academic blah, e.g. HSC

    5. "If I were to never see you again..." -- literally never see, as in death/etc. About a few people.

    6. "I should write more..."

    7. the CincLock-VII system

    Yo sup guys

YOU SHADOW READERS OF MY BLOG
who lurk here but never comment -

    COMMENT PLEASE (:

in the shoutbox or whatever. I like to know that I'm being stalked. And it will keep me more motivated to blog, unless you tell me you're some eagle-eyed creep who's watching me as I'm typing this.

...Yeah, you could completely ignore this call for comments. But that would be MEAN and MALICIOUS and MALODOROUS! Also, misogynistic and misanthropic. No, I just wanted to keep using long words beginning with M, haha.

    NOSTALGIA SPEW

    Preamble:
Yeah I was going to do the 10 day meme in ten days, however due to certain circumstances (VD essay, semi-formal, dead, dead, did I mention dead?) I cbb/forgot to do it in consecutive days. AND YOU KNOW WHAT, LOOPHOLE OHSNAP because the thing never said it had to be consecutive days ahaaaaa ///shot

So, I found this cool-ish meme thing on dA. And I'm so dead I don't even feel like drawing and I'm like listening to Wannabe by Spice Girls over and over again (lol curses to you, Alissimo).

    10 YEARS AGO I...
    1. had no friends, I think. HAHA.
    2. didn't like reading... I think. Possibly because I couldn't actually read yet. I can't actually remember, though... was it ten years ago or nine that I first started reading some kind of stories properly??
    3. had been alive for less than a decade (in this body/consciousness/mind, at least hahaha).

    5 YEARS AGO I...
    1. landed a place at NSG and was ecstatic.
    2. spent three months in China on holiday (in the middle of school LULZ) and subsequently forgot pretty much all the maths I knew... no seriously, even now I cannot recall my times tables with the near-lightning speed of which I was once in command. Le sigh.
    3. really liked writing supposed original fiction and was in that Mary-Sue/self-insertion/plagiarising-of-favourite-books'-concepts phase that I like to believe that most wannabe writers go through.

    3 YEARS AGO I...
    1. was convinced that I could draw quite well, and was physically incapable of seeing/accepting criticism of my godly skillz0rz.
    2. expanded my number of friends to a quantity greater than, say, three.
    3. joined the Australian Army Cadets! ...which I dropped out of a couple of years later.

    1 YEAR AGO I...
    1. GOT MY PAWS ON MY INTUOS3 GRAPHICS TABLET!
    2. discovered Tokio Hotel.
    3. was notably less happy than I am now.

    SO FAR THIS YEAR I...
    1. have aced one subject.
    2. have locked my sights on Visual Communication / International Studies at UTS... HELLO RELATIVELY-HIGH ATAR I AM COMING TO GET YOUUU!
    3. have enjoyed myself.

    YESTERDAY I...
    1. watched Inception!
    2. had to take two trains, a bus and another train in order to get to the cinema to watch Inception...
    3. looked up the lyrics to the Spice Girls' Wannabe

    TODAY I...
    1. did housework in the morning ffffff.
    2. ate nice pizza for lunch.
    3. need to prepare my brick for Yellow Brick Road lulz.

    TOMORROW I WILL...
    1. draw/paint digitally (for fun, not for school, yeyyy).
    2. have to go to school AAAGGGGHHHH.
    3. write something creative.

    SOMEDAY I WILL...
    1. write a novel and get it published.
    2. become a polyglot.
    3. BE RICH HAHAHAHHAHAH YES SURE HAHA. HA.

    10daymeme: TWO

Day two: nine things about yourself.
    1. I have a slight OCD thing about washing my hands... as anyone who has waited for me to emerge from a bathroom will probably have guessed.

    2. I am somewhat neurotic/paranoid and the most random/weird things can pester my mind for ages.

    3. When I'm drawing a non-neutral/vaguely-extreme facial expression (e.g. yawning, mouth hanging open in shock and rage), I tend to... mimic that facial expression. (I've only noticed this applying to semi-realistic drawing, though, not cartoons or emote-type faces.)

    4. The name "Rain" (my most commonly-used alias which has morphed into an IRL nickname) has nothing to do with my other weathery name. It was derived by dear Ara-la from "Saraine", which was the name of a roleplay character I had... three years ago?

    5. I've grown a liking for travelling by train.

    6. I like knowing medical/military jargon. Don't ask.

    7. I'm quite unskilled/untalented in any kind of performing art and in most kinds of sport - i.e. in most things that involve physical movement that looks/sounds nice and/or coordinated.

    8. I can pull symbolism/innuendo from ANYTHING.

    9. In the vast majority of cases, I really don't like it when people say FML.

    10daymeme: ONE

Day one: ten things you want to say to ten different people right now.
    1. Stay strong and look after yourself, you're worth so much more than you think you are.

    2. It really does make me a little happier when I see that you're happy.

    3. Sei proprio forte, simpatica e intelligente! TVB, carina.

    4. I probably won't actually do anything no matter how angry I get, thanks to the existence of the law and such, so there's no point going for a plausible threat - you fuck this up and I'll strangle you with barbed wire.

    5. I was going to type something for you in debatably-broken Al Bhed, so... be glad/not!glad that this is in English: YOU LOOK KINDA LIKE A CRISIS! AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!

    6. We used to be such good friends... hmm... a pity. Long climb back, I guess? Sometimes I find you annoying, but I also think you're pretty cool and worthy of admiration.

    7. The reason I flat-out rejected you so quickly was... because I thought you were kidding! Or messing with me, or taking a dare. And, um, don't ask why I assumed that. It was four years ago... which doesn't explain anything, but sounds like a good excuse so er yes...

    8. You were such an asshole, man! Not sure why I still vaguely enjoyed your company. You seem to have gotten nicer, though, or maybe you were perfectly nice and balanced all along but me, being the talented one I am, just managed to bring out your d-bag side... but I doubt it haha.

    9. You were/are charismatic, funny, and also somewhat fetching. And that time you said something to me and grinned and I kind of grinned back and acted like I knew what you were saying? I still don't know what you actually said to me. And if you can remember what it was, I will be mightily surprised and impressed.

    10. WHO ARE YOU AND WHY DO YOU WAVE TO ME WHENEVER YOU SEE ME?

    One thing to say:

    I love Taylor Swift songs.

    1. I really like Jared Leto's eyes in the From Yesterday music vid. And his name. And his singing's cool too, did I mention that? xD

    2. I have this renewed wave of love for Tokio Hotel AHAHAHHA <3333 ... though only the songs from Zimmer 483 and Schrei atm

    3. ....BIOLOGEHHH TOMORROWWWWWW

    4. 30 Seconds to Mars cover of Gaga's Bad Romance! It's pretty awesome and I LOVE THE GUITAR SOUND when it does that "ra ra ah-ah-ah" part... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7spoPjx7hs&feature=related

    5. The last three dotpoints in the prelim Bio syllabus are weird and English-like . . . like . . . essay-like . . . or something . . . yeah . . . still need to scribble some notes for that gahhahhaha

    homfgggg

Just finished notes for 8.4 Life on Earth chapter
    Major cramming. Major crashcoursing.
. . .why do I even bother going to school, I just learn the year's stuff in about four days
    ////KIDDING
(about the bothering to go to school thing, that is. not kidding about learning the stuff in four days. well, okay, not really learning it all in four days but i am doing all my notes in that time aaaaaaahahahha)

the year's osmosis!learning probably helped and by that I mean osmosis in the figurative sense not the diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane sense

    JEEEEZ
okay, one more Bio topic to cover . . . 8.5: evolution of Australain biota

AND HECKKZ0RZ I need to study for VA test tomorrow hahahah

CHEMICALS + INDICATORS, aka the stupid thing I missed out in in class which seems to crop up often in exams or something

    STARCH
    indicator = iodine
    no heat involved in test
    positive result: blue-black/purple
negative result: yellow-brown, no colour change

    GLUCOSE

heat - heat in water bath using a Bunsen burner
    positive: orange-red
negative: pale blue, no colour change

    PROTEIN
indicator = Biuret's test (what an annoying name to remember hahah) which is 5 drops of dilute sodium hydroxide and 3 drops of copper sulfate
    no heat

    OKAY FINISHED MAKING NOTES FOR
    + 8.2 -  A Local Ecosystem; and
    + 8.3 - Patterns in Nature

    FUCK YEAH

Organic and inorganic compounds found in cells and their uses in cells

alternate title: but first, before day 1 of the 10daymemething, is biology

I present to you various garbled Bio notes from 8.3, i.e. Patterns in Nature, i.e. the gigantic chem-like hideous topic which is actually interesting once I start reading/making notes properly but by the time I've convinced myself to do that, I'm running out of time fffffffff anyway--

oh and DISCLAIMER: heed these at your own risk for I've no idea if they're 100% correct (:
they're just... mainly... you know, occasionally-note-assisted regurgitaton for my own memory/desperatepre-examcramming

    1. Organic compounds in cells. Organice = synthesised by living things; contains carbon combined with hydrogen

    CARBOHYDRATES
Made of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen
    e.g. sugars, starch, glycerol
Sugars provide a form of quick energy to the cell
Sugar (in the form of glucose) is a reactant in aerobic cellular respiration, which produces ATP
Starch and glycerol are forms of stored energy
Cellulose is a structural part of cell walls

    PROTEINS
Contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sometimes phosphorous and sulfur
Made up of long chains of amino acids joined by peptide bonds; long chains = polypeptides
Sequence of amino acids determines what kind of protein is formed
Proteins are used by the cell in growth and repair
Form an important structural component, e.g. in cell membrane and cytoskeleton
As enzymes, proteins control all metabolic reactions within cells

    LIPIDS
Contains carbon, hydrogen and a small amount of oxygen
One glycerol to which fatty acids are joined
Store large amounts of energy (in the form of fat) - important biological fuel
Major structural component of all membranes in cells

    NUCLEIC ACIDS
Made up of long chains of nucleotides
Nucleotide = ribose or deoxyribose sugar + nitrogen base + phosphate
DNA stores the info that controls all the activities of the cell; it also contains the hereditary info that is passed through generations in reproduction, etc.
RNA is used by ribosomes in protein synthesis, and it also does other stuff . . . I think . . . yeah . . .

    -

    2. Inorganic molecules do not contain carbon combined with hydrogen and they do not form long chains.

    WATER
Water forms 90% of the protoplasm (which is the entirety of the cell)
    It is a transport medium
It is the medium in which all chemical reactions in cells take place
It can be used to regulate temperature in organisms
Can be a reactant in reactions

    MINERAL SALTS
Chlorides, carbonates of sodium, phosphates, nitrates, etceteraaaaa
Dissolved as ions in the cytoplasm and in the vacuoles of plant cells
Used in the synthesis of macromolecules and body tissues (iron in blood, calcium in bones/teeth)
Assist in chemical reactions by helping enzymes to function
    Assist in water balance
Essential for functioning of cell membrane and nerve+muscle cells

    [some] GASES
    Carbon dioxide + oxygen
    Dissolved in the protoplams
Used and/or produced in chloroplasts and mitochondria
Carbon dioxide is a reactant in photosynthesis and a product of aerobic cellular respiration
Carbon dioxide can also react with water to form biocarbonates, a buffer limiting changes in cells' pH
Oxygen is a product of photosynthesis and a reactant in aerobic cellular respiration

...yeah once again you see that I have this disturbing/stupid penchant to like to go into unncessary detail. What are the chances that we'll need to know that carbon dioxide reacts with water to form a bicarbonate that helps regulate acidity/alkalinity levels in cells? Or that mineral salts are essential in the functioning muscle and nerve cells?

    Need to remember:
carbohydrates in the form of sugars provide a quick source of energy for the cell
carbohydrates in the form of starch and glycerol are forms of stored energy

The knuckles of my left hand hurt
    Joint pain or something
    I'M GETTING OLD CRAPPPP

    Lol it's probably weird RSI I think/hope
Grrr still need to cover er . . . most of the prelim Bio syllabus... covered the ecosystem section, now for the rest DANGGG

    Friday, September 3, 2010

I need to study biology today ahhahahah and

I just remembered a really weird dream I had last night when one of my friends who doesn't draw AT ALL had a CINTIQ TABLET just lying around somewhere.

Well, not really lying around literally, but yeah. They had one. And in the dream I was something like . . . speechless with shock. Like literally speechless. Dumbfounded. Awestruck. Horrorstruck. Dismayed beyond belief.

LOL OKAY I'LL SHUT UP WITH THE SYNONYM THINGIES NOW.

. . . Yeah, guys. You needed to know that. Then again, you probably do only read my blog for random details of my life / brain, because that's pretty much all I post. Unless it's for the dodgy Modern History notes HAHAHAH.

Oh and the occasional video/pic that I have some strong opinion of, hmm.

    Anglo-German naval race

In 1889 Britain was all like, because we're an island nation with a far-flung empire, it's essential we have a kick-ass navy. They developed the two power standard, which was . . . their navy had to be the same size as the next two most powerful navies in the world combined (i.e. those of France and Russia).

So Britain had this awesomely powerful navy.

THEN in 1896 Grand Admiral von Tirpitz of Germany decides to biuld up and expand the German navy. Principle: build a navy powerful enough that it would deter Britain because any attempt to destroy it would be too costly to risk.

Britain: WTF GERMANY'S EXPANDING HER NAVY? When she's already got Europe's most powerful army? I see no reason for this! This smells like a threat to British security! Wtf!

Tensions mounted. In 1906 Britain suggested mutual naval limitations. However Germany wanted a guarantee of British neutrality in any future European war. Britain refused, as she was wary/scared of German expansionism.

In 1905 Britain comes out with the Dreadnought class battleship. It outpaces and outguns all other battleships then in existence. It runs on steam turbine engines which allow it to run at 21.6 knots per hour and it follows Vittorio Cuniberti's "all big gun" concept - that the ideal battleship has no intermmediate guns, just big ones.

BUT instead of strengthening Britain's naval position, the introduction of the Dreadnought weakens it because it renders every pre-Dreadnought in the fleet REDUNDANT/OBSOLETE. Furthermore, when Germany starts building Dreadnought class ships of her own, the naval race is even as they are starting from the same position.

    Yeah, jeeeez.

EVENTUALLY AT 1914 BRITAIN WINS THE DREADNOUGHT RACE.
I'm not going to spew out the numbers bc they'll take up valuable space in my head which I need for other stuff.

Yeah I have this aptitude for remembering slightly non-necessary things. Like the knot speed.

    Unification of Germany and stuff

More memory-regurgitation . . . it's like Pensieving gone really weird (not to mention Muggle)With occasional looking back at my notes because I still haven't memorised 100% of the details AHAHAHAH

    1815
After the Napoleonic Wars, 39 states emerge in the Germanic region instead of 300+
The Congress of Vienna takes place, during which Prince Metternich of Austria is a dominant figure. He does not want German unification to take place for fear that it will bring about change that will challenge the power of the Austrian King. He is also wary of the power of the other large Germanic state . . . PRUSSIAAAAA.
    Unification is delayed.
Andddd Otto von Bismarck is born . . . ON APRIL FOOLS DAY (:

    1819
Metternich implements the Carlsbad Decrees to control the kinds of ideas taught in universities. This is done to stifle liberalism, nationalism and in general ideas that promote change . . . (??)

    1834
Prussia sets up the Zollverein, an economic union that removes tariff barriers that limit trade between Germanic states. Almost all Germanic states join, including Austria. This amounts to economic unification and is an important step to political unification.

    1848
A rash of revolutions break out across Europe. The rulers of several German states are compelled to accept liberal constitutions. The revolutions seem to succeed, until 830 elected representatives gather in what is known as the Frankfurt Assembly and try to draw up a constitution for a united Germany. What happens is that there's a huge conflict over whether Austria is going to be included and the constitution is delayed until 1849. By this time, the strength of the revolutions has weakened and most of the liberal reforms are revoked. The last liberal uprisings are crushed by the Prussian Army.

    1864
The duchies of Schleswig and Holstein are in dispute. Their population is mainly German and Holstein is a member of the Confederation. However, Danish nationalists seek to incorporate them into Denmark. In 1963 Danish King Christian IX decrees a closer union of the duchies with Denmark. There is an OUTCRY in Germany, especially as a German prince was a rival claimant to the duchies. PRUSSIA and AUSTRIA join forces and go to war against Denmark over control of Schleswig and Holstein. Denmark loses.

    oh look, a brotherly dispute
Prussia and Austria fall out over the spoils of the war. This is temporarily solved by the Convention of Gastein in 1865. Austria gets to administer Holstein, and Prussia gets to administer Schleswig. However, Bismarck wants both duchies and sets about preparing for war and diplomatically isolating Austria (Bismarck proves to be good at this whole lonerate-countries-and-deny-them-allies thing hahaha)

    AUSTRO-PRUSSIAN WAR!
Bismarck provokes Austria into a war over Holstein. When Austria submits their dispute to the Confederation Diet, Bismarck responds by alleging that Austria violated the Gastein Conference and sends Prussian troops to Holstein. Austria responds by calling on the Confederation to mobilise against Prussia. Many German states respond. However, the Prussian army proves superior and defeats Austria in seven weeks. The Austrians surrender after the decisive Prussian victory at the Battle of Sadowa. The peace terms under the Treaty of Prague are lenient, for Bismarck doesn't want a bitter enemy on his southern border.

    North German Confederation
Following the Austro-Prussian War, most of the North German states are drawn together by Bismarck (presumably...?) into a military alliance which then becomes a state: the North German Confederation. Now, time to get another common enemy and unite the South with the North.

    FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR! 1870-1871
In 1868 there was a dispute between France and Prussia over who would succeed to the Spanish throne. Prussia wanted Leopold, a Hohenzollern prince, to succeed. France did not. France asked Leopold to withdraw his candidature for the throne, which he did. The French then sent the ambassador to Prussia, Count Benedetti, to Ems to meet with the Prussian King, Wilhelm I. France wanted a promise that no Hohenzollern prince would ever take the Spanish throne. Wilhelm refused. The meeting was conducted in a friendly atmosphere. Wilhelm reported the meeting via telegram to Bismarck, who EDITED THE TELEGRAM in what was to be known as the Ems Dispatch, changing the wording to make the tone of the meeting appear to be HOSTILE. When the Ems Dispatch was published, it aroused strong public feeling in both France and Prussia. So great were the nationalist passions that arose in France that Napoleon III declared war against Prussia. Prussia defeated the France. Under the Treaty of Frankfurt, by which peace was made, France was forced to cede Alsace and Lorraine and pay a war indemnity of 5 billion francs.

    AND HELLO GERMAN EMPIRE!
The Franco-Prussian war created an upsurge of nationalist feeling that swept the South German states into a union with the north, thus creating the united German Empire which was declared on January 18 in the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles. Wilhelm I  became the German Emperor and Bismarck became the Chancellor of Germany.
